The objective of this 5 days training is to strengthen the human resource capacity on malaria diagnostics and moni- toring therapeutic efficacy of antimalarial medecines in the African Region. The participants to this workshop are coming from The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.

During the opening ceremony, WHO Re- presentative in Burkina, Dr. Djamila Cabral have insisted on the opportunity for the 25 participants to learn more and to share experiences from their respective Coun- tries.

In the African Region, studies have shown that a significant number of patients receive antimalarial treatment without para- sitological diagnosis. This situation is due to limited availability of diagnosis tests in the private sector as it is in the public one.

The introduction of Rapid Diagnosis Test (RDTs) in the private and public sectors, as expected by the specialists, will reduce the global demand for antimalarial treatment. There is a need to monitor the continuous efficacy of Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies (ACTs), the life saving first line treatment in all countries.

From 9-13 June the participants will have theorical and pratical sessions on malaria RDTs, microscopy, monitoring and efficacy of antimalarial medecines.
